Susanna Demerest

F, b. 18 April 1703, d. 6 September 1747
Susanna was born on 18 April 1703. Note that the Dann source says she was born 6 Sep 1747, an obvious error..1 She was the daughter of Samuel Demarest and Marie de Ruine. She was baptized on 21 April 1703. Religion:.1 She married Benjamin Van Buskirk at Schraalenburg Church, Hackensack, NJ, on 21 March 1725. The Bans were published 21 March 1725 at Schraalenburg Church. According to Irene Shoemaker, a New Jersey index of Wills shows that a Benjamin Van Buskirk was named as son-in-law in the Will made 10 May 1727 of one Samuel Demarest of New Jersey. Reference to the Demarest genealogy disclosed the marriage of Susanna Demarest to Benjamin Van Boskerk in 1725. Examination of all New Jersey records of the Van Buskirk family show that there was no other Benjamin of the right age for a marriage in 1725 except the son of Laurens and Hendrickje. Lib. B. page 111.

This same Demerest genealogy states that Benjamin was the son of Laurens Andreas. That is an error. Referring to Will of Lawrence Van Buskirk, 8 May 1722, Hackensack, New Jersey, it is plainly stated that Benjamin was his son. Lib. A., page 322..2,3,4 Susanna died on 6 September 1747.1
As of 21 March 1725,her married name was Van Buskirk. She inherited property at Teaneck, Bergen Co., New Jersey.
