"Hon. Stiles T. Stanton.
His Death of Pneumonia in New York Yesterday - A Sketch of His Career.
New York, Feb. 2. - Ex-Senator Stiles T. Stanton, of Connecticut, died here of pneumonia at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the Grand Union Hotel, where he generally lived during the winter months. His age was 39 years and he leaves a wife, no children.
The deceased was a native of Stonington, this State, a graduate of the late General William H. Russell's Collegiate and Commercial Institute, this city. Many of his class-mates most affectionately remember him and he was a gentleman who all along won many friends. He was journalist by nature and from choice, and his labors on the Noriwch Bulletin added greatly to the p[opularity and success of that newspaper. His witty paragraphs wereextensively copied. For a time he was connected with the Worcester Press and prominent in political life in this State. He was secretary of the Republican State committee in 1880, and an alternate delegate to the national convention of that year, was executive secretary during the administration of Governor Andrews, representing Stonington in the Legislature in 1881 and 1882, and the ninth district in the State Senate in 1884, 1885, and 1886, when he was president pro tem. He was an aide-de-camp on the Brigade staff of the National Guard in 1875 and 1878, and cnadidate for Secretary of State in the State election of 1882.¹'
