Rufus Stanton

     Rufus was born in 1777. He was the son of Ebenezer Stanton and Mary Palmer. He married Helen Hotaling. Rufus died on 28 December 1860.
      When 16 he moved to Corinth, now Syracuse, NY (from Mayfield). He was a baker and brewer, engaged in the salt industry, kept a tavern. In 1816 he raised rye where the Syracuse House stood in 1891. His farm was on the western limits of the city, now known as Stanton Hill. The Driving Park was the site of his old meadow.1

He married Polly Chamberlain on 10 January 1804.1 He married Pollina Prosser on 1 March 1814.1 He married Sophia Huyck at NY on 4 December 1822.1 David died on 10 June 1872 at Westerlo, Albany Co., Ny.1
      He was a farmer and a Baptist. The Racine Kenosha history says "David Stanton was a man of careful and industrious habits and a worthy citizen, who won the respect of all with whom he came in contact."2

But in his own family group, the birth is listed as January..1 He was the son of Rev. Reuben Stanton and Orpha Lapham. He married Catharine M. Kenady at Westerlo, Albany Co., Ny, on 18 June 1806. He married Janette Cochran at Westerlo, Albany Co., Ny, on 13 March 1809. Reuben died on 19 August 1859 at Westerlo, Albany Co., Ny.1
