[70] Alex lived with his mother and stepfather on the John Rea farm,
attended Crumb school and Rouse school, quitting in the fourth
grade. In 1895 when his mother and stepfather moved to Ute, IA
(where the stepfather had a butcher shop), Alex lived with his
brother Edgar on the home farm. Later he became a barber and
operated barbershops in Oakdale, Battle Creek, and Meadow
Grove, NE. In Turin, IA he had a barbershop and pool hall.
